The International School of Aruba Elementary School is a joyful place of children learning and experiencing a wide range of disciplines every day. Whether academics, the arts or athletics, ISA offers each child the opportunity to develop in all capacities.
The Elementary program is composed of grades 1 through 5. ISA offers an American core curriculum program, while also accommodating children's multiple intelligences and learning styles through a dimension of thematic and project-based learning.
All of the elementary staff are experienced, credentialed, professional educators. The average class size in the elementary school is 12, with the largest class being 20.
Students take core classroom subjects such as reading, spelling, writing, math, science, and social studies with their grade level teachers. In addition, students go weekly / tri-weekly to classes which are taught by specialists. These include physical education, music, art, integrated technology, library, and both native and foreign language Spanish and Dutch.
English Language Learner (ELL) classes are available for students who are learning English instead of Dutch or Spanish. The school does not have services to accommodate children with moderate or severe learning disabilities. The teachers of the elementary grades often work together on special interdisciplinary projects or cross grade-level events.
Elementary students enjoy their own lunchtime in the newly renovated cafeteria with their teachers, separate from middle and high school students. The variety of choice entices the majority of children to eat the school food, and there are also microwave ovens to heat food brought from home. ISA does not serve sodas or candy bars, and encourages healthy eating each day.
