Welcome Back Eagles!
Posted 05/08/2016 22:10

Hello ISA Community,

We are excited about starting year number 87 for ISA on the island! Yes, between the original school near the refinery and our current location, we represent a long tradition of quality education in Aruba starting in 1929. We are glad you've chosen to be a part of the ISA family. Here is some key information for starting the year. New students will have an orientation on Monday, August 8.

All students will begin school on Wednesday, August 10th. It is a full day, regular schedule starting at 7:45 am.

We are excited about our new staff. Maria Isabel will take over the Toddler House. She brings a wealth of teaching experience and is perfectly suited for developing and harnessing the energy of the toddler age mind. Mirugia de Cuba brings her talents and professional experience to share with our Music students. You'll be pleased with the quality and level of music our students will produce. Patrick Dwyer joins us all the way from Australia, after several years of teaching in China and Thailand, to excite secondary students about the Life Sciences. Eric Huston brings his engineering and physcial science experiences, while in Alaska and Mexico, to teach the Physical Sciences to our secondary students. These are all quality teachers and genuine, authentic people we've brought to work with your students.

For program changes, we are continuing the blended Montessori / Traditional successes from last year into the second grade. Crisanta Galinato will take over that role and switch from the 4th grade to the 2nd grade class. Suzette Charles will now share her years of expertise and experience with the 4th grade class. With the continued success from our Montessori Children's house, we are able to reconfigure grades to keep better teacher to student ratios. Emma Bardi will share her talents with a combination of K and 1st grade students. This change allows more adult to student support in both the Children's House and the Blended program. We have talented, experienced teachers matched to the areas and grades that will provide quality education for your children.

To better help our 6th grade students transition from the Elementary setting to the Secondary schedule, Christy Wilson will take the lead on a full year of transition for this "caught in the middle" age group. They'll start the year in more of the Elementary structure with a gradual transition to better prepare them for life as a Secondary student. The students will get the support they need to be successful during this challenging time for adolescent development.

ISA has a family feel. Be a part of it and get involved. Start with joining the PTA and taking an active role. We ask our students to develop skills in Leadership, Character and Community Service. The adults in our ISA family have the opportunity to step up and model what that really means. Enjoy the last few days of vacation and come back rested and energized. Welcome back Eagles.

Dennis Willeford,
Head of School
