English Language Learning
ISA welcomes students with a range of English abilities. The program provides explicit English instruction classes for students with limited English, and support for those whose language skills are strong. Students entering high school need to be able to read, write and speak in English competently. high school students are offered an academic English class to support their studies.
ISA uses the WIDA assessment tool to determine levels of proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in score range of 1-6. Students who achieve a four usually do not require a separate English class and do well with the support structures available to all students. Students with an overall score of less than four are provided English language classes to help them master the general and academic language skills needed for success.
