The ISA Middle School is a place of academic preparation for high school, of exploratory learning in the arts and athletics, and a time of transition from the supportive environment of the elementary school into the advanced expectations of the college preparatory high school. The ISA Middle School is a time of social growth combined with gaining the requisite foundation for a successful high school experience.
The ISA Middle School is comprised of grades 6-8. All students take core courses in Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. Each grade also takes special classes in Physical Education, Dutch and Spanish, Art, and Music. The language classes are divided according to level of proficiency, ranging from beginners through Advanced/Native Speaker sections. Grades 6-8 also have the opportunity to take a rotation of special minor classes each semester
English Language instruction English Language Learners are available for those who need it in place of Dutch or Spanish classes.
An Advisory class meets two times per week with an assigned adviser who will help guide and support the students socially, emotionally and academically. Monthly themes include: getting organized, communication, friendship, time management skills, study skills, decision making, community service, and future planning.
Teachers monitor the progress of students in the Middle School and have weekly team meetings. Communication with parents is emphasized so that home and school work together during this important period of adolescence. A solid foundation of academic and personal development will lead to greater success in high school and beyond.
